Bear with me, I am new to this. By this I mean two things, blogging is a new adventure for me as is the topic I will spend the next several months writing about, my husband's new diagnosis of throat cancer. I just retired less than a month ago after 32 years of working for the court system. Somehow I had a different vision of what life after working would be. Randy, (my husband) had been having a sore throat with some swelling in the jaw for several weeks. Dr. told him it was teeth issues. To the dentist, dentist sends him to the root canal specialist, who sends him to an oral surgeon to have the wisdom teeth out, who advises him nothing is wrong with his wisdom teeth. Onward for a CT scan, only to find out there is a mass. To the ENT Surgeon for a biopsy. Yesterday the biospsy and not good news. Cancer orginating in the tonsil and down the back of the throat in the muscle. What does all of this mean and where do we go from here? We meet with the surgeon again tomorrow after he gets the full pathology report. More questions in my mind. We bought a house in Florida about 10 months ago, hoping to get to use it. Well, be careful what you wish for. We have decided to go to Florida for the 3-6 months of treatment he will need. More family support closer and our thinking is that their is more resources available to him, besides the fact that it is florida in the winter.
Randy's Cancer Chapter
Randy's cancer journey through his caretaker's eyes. I call it a cancer chapter, as we are hopeful it will only be a short departure from our "normal" lives that this journey will take us on and we will conquer it and move on to another more uplifting chapter. It is only an obstacle and conquering it will only make us stronger.
